ABOUT THE AREA
Chueca probably became the most popular and trendy area in Madrid over the last years.
Discover both author and world cuisine restaurants, as well as a shopping district with cool stores. Both locals and foreigners sit by the sunny sidewalk cafes, or even at the rooftop bars. Places to see and be seen, with some fashionable people, or just anybody interested in the vibe of this unique and cosmopolitan spot of the city. For sure, a place to have a drink at night too.
Young entrepreneurs run small modern bakeries, hairdressers, clothing boutiques, bookstores, cafes...with lots of character. Find also big supper markets, like OPENCOR (El Corte Inglés) or the remarkable new modern architecture Mercado de San Anton, with its penthouse restaurant.
Being an old neighborhood, you will also have a taste of those old style taverns and tapas bars. Even guitar makers still have their old workshops here. A XVI century monastery, and at least 2 modernists theatres are located here too.
Plaza de Chueca (Chueca Square) is the epicentre of it. Fuencarral, just 5 min. away is a pedestrian street with all the international fashion brands. Staying in Plaza de Chueca means being right in the centre just a 5-10 min. walk to main atractions, such as Gran Vía, Sol, or Plaza Mayor.
